ORTEGA // BLOWN OUT // FIRST PROCESS CHURCH OF MARS

Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings presents

ORTEGA

Ortega is a four piece sludge/doom collective from the north of The Netherlands. Four men tell a tale of the sea which is told in a broad and visual manner. The sound is best described as dark metal balanced with atmospheric soundscapes and slow, heavy riffs.

The murky depths of Ortega's sound drag a darker yet more poignant carcass ashore with Crows, their latest recording. A collision of doom, sludge and noise tells a story of a man looking inward and onward.

Crows is a part of their yet unnamed album, to be released in 2015 by Black Bow Records on vinyl and Tartarus Records on cassette.

BLOWN OUT

Blown Out are a Newcastle based power trio of heavy rolling basslines, waster infused guitar freakouts held together with steady freeform rhythms.

Made up from members of Bong, Drunk in Hell, Haikai No Ku, 11Paranoias, Khunnt and Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs.

FIRST PROCESS CHURCH OF MARS

First Process Church of Mars are a three piece heavy stoner/psychedelic rock band from Hartlepool in the North East of England. All songs are improvised in a live environment in the studio.

What Started last year as a last minute replacement for the cancelled Northern Darkness festival and, by all acounts, turned into a triumph of mess and metal, Byker Grave is back for a second edition! This time around, the line-up features a selection of hand-picked bands representing the best of the North East and UK underground scenes.

Tickets are available now for £10 in advance from:

WODENSTHRONE

Currently taking a break from live shows to concentrate on their third album, the North Eastern black metallers return for a one-off UK performance to warm-up for a US festival appearance.

AGELESS OBLIVION

New album Penthos has received praise from all over the place, perhaps in part to the Century Media machine behind it. Hailed as everything from "the future of metal" (by Metal Hammer) to "really fucking good" (by James Hill / Omega Warfare Records), don't miss the chance to see them at an intimate venue while you can.

SEA BASTARD

Making waves across the UK, Brighton-based feedback worshippers Sea Bastard will be heading up to Newcastle for the first time.

GNAW 4: THE WOUNDED KINGS // SUNWØLF // ATRAGON // VOE // NATHALIE STERN // WAHEELA // CALLAN

Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings and Waheela have joined forces to bring you GNAW 4. The Great Northern Amplifier Worship is in its fourth year and its last year at the Star and Shadow Cinema in its current location, so no expense has been spared to bring you the best GNAW yet. Six incredible artists, one phenomenal DJ and the best venue in Newcastle. GNAW 4 is here!

THE WOUNDED KINGS

The Wounded Kings are a doom metal band formed in 2005 in Dartmoor. They uphold Britain's occult heritage and aim to produce a unique blend of spectral doom and psychedelic horror with a desolate end of the world vibe filled with suffocating heaviness. Hallmarks are eerie choirs, pianos and the use of space within the slow and mind-bending riffs. Check out their most recent album Consolamentum via the Candlelight records bandcamp link below, but expect a set heavy on their older material as they have recently been re-joined by original vocalist George Birch.

SUNWØLF

Hailing from Leeds, Sunwolf create some of the most atmospheric and slow burning instrumental heaviness that you are likely to hear. Supporting a range of artists from Ufomammut, Chelsea Wolfe to Forest Swords, they have built a formidable reputation as one of the most versatile and engaging bands in the post-rock/metal style. Although taking a break from live shows to focus on new material, Sunwolf are making a very special effort to appear at GNAW 4. Catch them while you can.

ATRAGON

Formed in the cold, harsh winter of 2012 over a common disdain for mankind, Atragon worship at the altar of the riff. They desire only to bring about your doom through the powers of distortion, tube amplification and heathen ritual.

VOE

Glasgow-based Voe are a monstrous entity of crushingly heavy sound. Citing the likes of Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Isis and Sunn O))) as some of their influences, Voe combine a number of styles in order to deliver a very unique style of heaviness. This is only their second show in Newcastle but ask anyone who caught them on their first visit and they will tell you just how much they are not to be missed.

NATHALIE STERN

After a two year break from performing live, Nathalie Stern recently returned with a much darker sound, layering up choral vocals and synth drones to create a ritualistic trance.

WAHEELA

Formed in 2009, Waheela have been pushing the boundaries of heavy experimental music for five years. Entirely improvised, they draw on a range of influences from noise, metal, blues, krautrock and psychedelia, all of which have made them a difficult band to define. Their music is very loud and very intense... a great way to begin GNAW 4! Check out their latest tape release HX Pop via the Cruel Nature Recordings bandcamp link below.

HORSE LATITUDES // COLTSBLOOD // OMMADON // BONG

Leave Me Here + Inverted Grim-Mill Recordings have teamed up to bring you this cracker of a night.

HORSE LATITUDES (Finland)

Menacing and majestic, the riffs and atmospheres of Horse Latitudes never veer off into pretension. This trio includes two bass guitar players who combine intricately with a vocalising drummer to execute a sublime form of doom that is heavy as well as serene.

COLTSBLOOD (Liverpool)

Punishing and methodical, Coltsblood's grim sludge encapsulates the haunting howls of ancient armies entering battle. Relentless and dense soul-crushing doom riffs are accompanied with cacophonous drums and the war cries of our ancestors. Coltsblood remind us of the pain as they travel on a bleak journey into the dark remnants of a battle torn past.

OMMADON (Glasgow/Newcastle)

Heavy and gravity laden, Ommadon's raw and minimal doom comes clawed down from the Moon and crashes to the Earth at a glacial pace. This two piece create huge chasms of heavy riffs telepathically bound with clangorous percussion. A filthy rich heaviness that is always perilously close to collapse into the abyss.

BONG (Space)

Ritualistic and trance inducing, Bong create molten drone guitar laden vibes that continuously overlap in a journey through ancient space. A sitar crowned swathe of rhythm and darkness brings on eastern tones and reminds us that endurance through darkness leads to mystical fulfilment. Bong are true journeymen and you will be encouraged to accompany them into oblivion.

LATITUDES // WAHEELA // NEOLITHIC

LATITUDES

Following the success of their critically acclaimed debut album "Agonist" in 2009, and after a run of successful tours and crushing live shows, LATITUDES wasted no time starting work on their second full-lengther, "Individuation". And with a growing worldwide following, the quintet from Hertfordshire, is now prepared to unleash their most monumental work to date.

Produced once again by Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard, Primordial) at Foel Studios in Wales, and mastered by Jamie Gomez Arellano (Ulver, Cathedral, Ghost) "Individuation" will crush you like a steel wrecking ball in a velvet glove. Jungian psychology refers to "Individuation" as the process of self-unification through the resolution of successive layers of psychological conflict. And it is a fitting title for an album that showcases a long hard road for a band that have not only survived, but grown stronger and better with every release. "Individuation" is the band's strongest statement yet and re-affirms why LATITUDES have captured the interest of fans from across genres, worldwide.

WAHEELA

The waheela is a wolf-like cryptid reported from Nahanni Valley in the Northwest Territories of Canada.

Waheela are an improvised noise/rock project driven by a shared affection for shrieking feedback, non-denominational riff worship & unexplained sounds. They have been described as sounding like “a kind of death-trance” & akin to a particularly good German band being dredged from a big river.

Waheela are five male bipeds with biblical names & are typically found in darkened rooms in the North of England.

NEOLITHIC

Sunderland based doom droners who rumble like a large thing falling over causing misery for all.
